First-Order Degradation of Pesticides: Theory, D.L. Nofziger

چکیده

Degradation in soils is the result of a combination of chemical and, predominantly, biological events (Bollag and Liu, 1990; Wu and Nofziger, 1999). A first-order degradation model is often used to simulate the decrease of residual mass of a chemical compound in a soil system after its application (Dykaar and Kitanidis, 1996; Walker, 1974). If the first-order rate constant or half-life remains unchanged in the degradation process, the residual mass of the chemical degraded decreases exponentially with time. This program displays the changing concentration of a chemical undergoing first-order degradation for user-specified degradation rates and initial concentrations.

ON-LINE SOLID-PHASE EXTRACTION AND LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY/PARTICLE BEAM-MASS SPECTROMETRY FOR DEGRADATION STUDIES OF SOME POLAR PESTICIDES IN WATER

An on-line automated method for photodegradation studies of isoproturon, diuron, atrazine, fenitrothion, and metoxuron by means of liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) with particle beam (PB) interface is described. Surface water samples were first spiked with 50 µg/l of each pesticide and then exposed to the radiation of the medium-pressure mercury lamp. Next, in regular intervals o...

Sorption, degradation and leaching of pesticides in soils amended with organic matter: A review

The use of pesticides in modern agriculture is unavoidable because they are required to control weeds. Pesticides are poisonous; hence, they are dangerous if misused. Understanding the fate of pesticides will be useful to use them safely. Therefore, contaminations of water and soil resources could be avoided. The fates of pesticides in soils are influenced by their sorption, decomposition and m...

Influence of pine or oak wood on the degradation of alachlor and metalaxyl in soil.

The objective of this work was to study the influence pine or oak wood added to soil as an amendment (5% w/w) had on the degradation rate of two pesticides, alachlor and metalaxyl, with different hydrophobic character. The formation of pesticide metabolites and the soil dehydrogenase activity in non-amended and amended soil samples were also monitored. The degradation of metalaxyl followed firs...

Kinetic effect of humic acid on alachlor degradation by anodic Fenton treatment.

Contamination of water often results from the heavy use of agricultural chemicals, and the disposal of aqueous pesticide waste is a concern. Anodic Fenton treatment (AFT) has been shown to be a successful remediation method for pesticides in solution, but the effect of soil on the degradation kinetics of pesticides using this method has not been determined. The purpose of this study was to stud...

Sonochemical kinetic model of diazinon and malathion pesticides degradation in aqueous solution

In this work, elimination two types of organophosphorus pesticides, diazinon and malathion spiked in aqueous solution by ultrasonic irradiation was investigated. Six different initial concentrations of diazinon and malathion (100, 300, 500, 200, 400, and 600 μg/L respectively) at different pH (3, 7, 9) and time (30, 45, 60, 90, 105 min) were investigated. Results showed that diazinon and malath...
